Piper PA-44 Seminole
The Piper Seminole is usually the first taste of multi engine flight that pilots
with Civil receive. It is a modern, reliable and relatively easy plane to handle,
thus making it a perfect twin engine trainer. The Seminole shares the same handling
qualities of the Warrior and Arrow with similar attitudes, however the added power
offers cruise speeds of up to 160knots. Its low cost and ease of flight also make
it a very capable instrument trainer and it is the popular choice at Civil for this
purpose.
Making its first flight in 1976 the Seminole is basically a modified Arrow airframe
fitted with two 180hp engines. Originally designed as a business aircraft it found
more of a niche in training. Its accommodation for four and low operating cost
compared to similar twins makes the Seminole versatile as an instrument trainer,
commercial trainer, light charter aircraft and private touring aircraft. Not only
will flying the Seminole sharpen your skills and reactions it is also enjoyable and
exhilarating.
