Commercial Pilot License

Commercial Pilot Licence

Obtaining a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) is the first step to a fulfilling career in aviation. With a CPL, you will be free to earn money as a pilot as well as undertake further training with the view to add to your qualifications. You'll be able to pursue the job in aviation that you've always dreamed of. Whether it's working for the airlines, a charter company, a flying school or in agriculture, a CPL will be essential.

Our course is designed to suit the individual whilst incorporating several money saving features designed to match today's tight budgets. Either full-time or with weekly lessons, our instructors are keen to take an interest in you by developing a program which encourages the student, under the guidance of an instructor, to work at his or her own pace.

Fundamentals such as climbing, descending, turning, taking off and landing will be taught first in either the Cessna 152 or Piper Warrior. The choice is yours. Our immediate goal will be to get you up flying solo as soon as possible so you're in a position where you can practice and prepare for what we call the General Flying Progress Test (GFPT). All tests are conducted in a relaxed atmosphere by our own friendly staff. Having completed this first phase of your training, you'll be licenced to fly as pilot in command and carry passengers within the local training area boundaries.

Learning to navigate will require a schedule of cross country navigation exercises, where you'll learn a variety of visual navigation techniques while, together with your instructor, you'll find your way around the Victorian countryside. The first four exercises will be designed to teach you the fundamentals. New challenges and more difficult navigation routes will be encountered towards the end of the Nav. Schedule. As your experience and expertise grow you'll be required to fly in and out of controlled airspace where you'll find yourself flying within close proximity of the commercial airliners whilst transmitting on the same radio frequencies that they are on. Upon successful completion of this navigation phase, you'll be awarded your Private Pilot Licence (PPL).

Your licence will entitle you to take family, friends and colleagues anywhere within Australia. Importantly, with a PPL, you'll be free to embark upon the exciting task of building 70 flying hours in command, which is the minimum requirement for a CPL.

The commercial phase of your training will commence with an endorsement in a high performance aircraft boasting a variable pitch propeller and retractable undercarriage. Typically, the Piper Arrow is the ideal choice. As your command hours build, you'll emark upon another schedule of navigation exercises. However, the emphasis will now be on achieving the professional standard expected of a commercial pilot. You'll learn to embrace the increase in workload that accompanies the more powerful engine and the faster cruising speed. Flight planning time will be restricted and the navigation routes will pose various scenarios which will require quick thinking and sound decision making skills. Poor weather will be encountered and the correct techniques to be used in such conditions will be taught. Overall, when it's time for you to be tested, you'll feel more than prepared for whatever scenario may come your way.

With your newly acquired Commercial licence, you'll have the option of pursuing employment immediately or adding to your qualifications by embarking upon more advanced training such as a multi engine endorsement and / or a Command Instrument Rating.

The academic side may appear daunting to some. However, Civil is a leader in this field. We provide theory classes conducted by fully qualified commercial pilots where the emphasis is on learning in an environment where individual attention is assured. Via our sister company, the Australian College of Aviation, we believe we have set the standard for Australian Aviation theory and actually provide our own text books to over 150 schools.

Your qualifications will be automatically recognised throughout Australia and be widely accepted around the world. Civil is proud of its reputation for providing commercial flight training of the highest standards and we believe that our training methods will put you in the strongest position possible when you apply for the job you're seeking.
